Hello all I am looking for a French 3rd rate ship of the line (something around 70 guns.) set of build plans or a kit something around 1/48 scale if anyone has any ideas.

The RMG Collections website has drawings of French ship Terrible (70) 1747 on their site in low resolution but can be purchased in high resolution from them. The plans are described as follows:

Scale: 1:48. Plan showing the body plan, stern board outline, sheer lines with inboard detail, and longitudinal half-breadth for 'Terrible' (1747), a captured French Third Rate, possibly prior to fitting as a 70-gun Third Rate two-decker.

Reverse: Scale: 1:96. Plan showing the topgallant roundhouse, roundhouse (poop), quarterdeck, forecastle, upper deck, gun deck (lower deck), orlop deck, and fore and aft platforms for 'Terrible' (1747).

If you do not want to prepare the many drawings needed for a scratch build, I agree with Jwall that Ancre is a great choice for French ships, especially the multi-volume monograph for a 74.

Has anyone seen these plans?
They are modern plans and should be compared to contemporary plans for accuracy. That being the case, why not use contemporary plans that you know will be accurate rather than modern versions that may or may not be. Contemporary plans from RMG are free in low resolution but will cost you for high res. There are about 800 high pages of contemporary plans held by RMG in high redolution in the Wiki Commons web site for free download but they are all English Ships. Everything from ships' boats to first rates can be found there. The Wiki site also has over 2000 low res drawings for free download.

For French ships I would contact the Musée National de la Marine at

You mean i can get plans for Le Superbe 74 gun ship free on Wiki? How I haven't ever found that

No, the Wiki site has about 3000 English plans from RMG, 800 of which are high resolution. RMG does have the plans for the French ship Terrible (70) 1747 in low res as mentioned above. For more, the Musee National in Paris may be your best bet. Also check the Danish archives as they have plans for Danish, French, and English ships. I find it difficult to use, but they have a lot of information if you can find it. https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/other/index-creator/40/3353816/17149179 I cannot find an index for these but if anyone has one, I would be very grateful to get it.

Have a look at ancre.fr. I have La Belle (about EUR 100), complete with a booklet about the history and plans.
