Finished C-47 "Dakota"

My father was a navigator on these planes in WWIIView attachment 522051
Had many flights on one including skydiving from one in New Jersey. We used to ride to Peong Yang Do (P Y Do) from Osan AFB for duty with the Army Security Agency. And a flight from Osan came up once a week to bring us personnel, mail and rations weather permitting. The plane landed on the beach at low tide and that was the runway....PYDo_C47_ontheBeach004.jpg

Very nice, I live near a small airport in Oshawa, Ontario Canada. Once in awhile one will drop in. The company uses these for searching minerals around Canada ( maybe beyond too ). They've been converted to turbo prop for better performance and reliability. When you look at the olde girl in the air and the sound from it....
It just not right, but business is $$$$.
They still look graceful with smooth lines, unlike today's stuff

Here in BC it is said that no self-respecting mountain would not have at least one "Dak" wrapped around it.

these planes in WWII
There are/were a few of these planes in Normandy set up for the paratroopers that you used to be able to enter. While movies give you an idea on the space, being inside one is a whole different story. There is also a glider in one the museum buildings in St. Mere Eglise that you pass through as you exit the museum. For my generation, this is still something of recent history, but soon to be more like ancient history as we lose the last of the 66,000 veterans of the greatest generation that we still had in 2024. Anyone interested in WWII history would be very happy with 3 or 4 days in Normandy. One of our lifetime favorite visits away from home.

What scale is this kit, and who manufactured it?
its 1/48 and its an older Monogram kit. Lest some assume otherwise, my father flew in C-47s not necessarily like the one I built. I could find no record, i.e. builder no. or (not yet) photos of the C-47s that were flown in Southeast Asia. I built this one because I like the paint scheme.
