First Time Planking

Thankyou Robb444
Must admit i have watched quite a few videos and started to get a little better towards the end of planking

Most planking tutorials and advice is to start the planking at either the top (gunports) or the bottom (keel) and work in one direction only. Tapering planks or adding steelers as needed has you go. Try also to study photos or historical ships if you can... better still go visit some of those still available... Victory, Cutty Sark, Tricomalee all here in UK.

Dont know if this is the correct place for this

My first attempt at planking i know its not perfect but there is another layer to do yet

Better than my first effort! I'd suggest filling in some of the gaps with wood putty and sanding everything smooth. Use a file to straighten the boards at the stern and make sure to sand and shape them so that both ends of the hull are uniform when you look at the ship stern on. If there's a gap, make stealer to cover any gap between the keel and the hull planks.

The way I see it, the first layer is only there to give shape and support to the second and visible layer. It doesn't really matter what it looks like as long as the shape's good.

It looks OK to me.

Good work!

Suggest you study several tutorials. You will get tips and tricks along the way and ultimately develop your own style.
One of the most informative tutorials is here on SOS by Dave Stevens. IT has helped a lot, and I am still learning.
