Foot Shaft?

If it’s a rigging item could it be an awkward translation of the term “Foot Rope”? Or could it refer to the lines that hang down from the jackstay to support the foot rope?

Roger

Can you scan or photograph that section of the instructions? Is it in with rigging items or other parts of the vessel? As Roger posted, it sounds like a translation issue.
Thanks

It’s the Rattlesnake Mamoli. I’ve attached parts list. It’s in order on installation and comes with the parts of the foremast. ??

I can’t find part 226 “ring” in the plans either.

After some sleuthing around, I believe “foot shaft” is a mis-translation of the Italian term for “base of the mast”. Since it is listed as metal, I think it is a brittania fitting that goes around the base of the mast (your parts list shows one each for the main and fore masts. If all of that is correct, then it should look like a ring with flats on the inside and bottom.

Are you suggesting that those are not the parts?
Not at all. As it turns out, Fletch shows it is wood, not metal so makes even more sense. The ring of wedges was covered with canvas so painting the wooden ring a canvas color would show it nicely against the color of the surrounding wood and not have to worry about making a series of wedges. Leaving as wood still looks nice. Even some contemporary models do not always put on a faux canvas cover or make the ring with wedges.
