Not new, but probably not everyone knows it. There is a FREE software which provides the same features as AutoCad and is compatible with it and other programs both ways. The name of the software is Drafsight and the same company commited it which created Solidworks, one of the best mechanical CAD programs. You have to register but is costs nothing.

Yes, I read some months ago that DraftSight ceased to be free (it was free for about 15 years). Bummer.
