Gallic fishing boat St Gildas

I throw myself on the mercy of the court to render verdict on which will go better on the viewable side of the ship.

Neither one. They are both too pristine to be mounted on a fishing boat where they would inevitably be coated with all kinds of slime, grease and gunk. ROTF

Those look fantastic - waaaay better than what was supplied!

You’re too kind, Russ!

Hey Namabiiru,
thats soooo beautiful. I like it....
Beautiful characterising detail. Well done.

Cheers

St Gildas is, for all intents and purposes, finished. She lacks only a ship’s boat, which is not included in the kit and must be scratch-built. My plan is to use @AllanKP69’s cutter plans scaled to 60% of their original size. However, to do that, I first need to build a thickness sander. My challenge with that is that 3/4s of my tool and hardware stash are in US specs, and everything available in Japan is metric so bashing something together gets a bit complicated. Final photos someday!

My wife thought St Gildas needed to go in the living room for now. She doesn’t realize it’s not moving until the new house is finished…

It’s like they thought crappy models have more appeal, but given the quality of the kit, I’m guessing their builder gave up in frustration.

Congratulations!
Whether you choose to display her in the living room or somewhere else, let her shine with pride. It's a beautiful model and a truly great accomplishment!

She's absolutely beautiful @Namabiiru ! It's refreshing to see a model that is out of the ordinary. You have much to be proud of.

Actually, this too is refreshing. At least they show an example of a model that would be built with the materials supplied rather than, as some companies, hire a master modeler to craft something for their cover photos that could not possibly be built using the included components. ROTF

Our good friend came over today and felt like the best way to view the ship required fondling sails and rigging so now I have some repair work to do. o_O

I always assumed that, “Don’t touch my models” was encoded in our DNA, but perhaps not ROTF

Is your friend over 8 years old and ... are they still your good friend? ROTF

Hey Namabiiru, :D

The Gildas looks really nice and I would put it down right away and just look at it. You've built her really well and your idea with the lifebuoy is just great.

What a great ship. Respect and appreciation!ThumbsupThumbsup

Oh yes, many thanks for the praise, but I'm still miles away from being good. You're way ahead of me.

But I will improve with every step, I hope ....

Best regards
