Gallic fishing boat St Gildas

One of the things that have been keeping me from making much progress on St Gildas has been several going away gifts I’ve had to make for the office. I have several active duty military folks working for me and when the leave I make stained glass origami cranes for their spouses as a reminder of Japan. Just finished two:

I can only begin to describe what an absolute pain in the keester these are to make, but it’s a labor of love. If you think rigging a tall ship takes a steady hand, try balancing a bead of molten lead on the edges of two pieces of glass that don’t meet at a right angle.
Good morning. Those are really great and it is something for the recipient to keep as a remembrance. A worthy gift. Cheers Grant

These are beautiful my sister and I still have the glass statues that my dad got from his time in Germany and they were bought so I'm sure that knowing who these were made they will be cherished and passed down for years to come.

Had wanted to have all the mizzen mast rigging complete for my next post, but it’s coming along so slowly, and I’m dreadfully overdue to post an update. The rigging for the mizzen is essentially done except for belaying everything and adding appropriate rope hanks (the making of which I still have not mastered)

I also re-rigged the steering tackle with some smaller diameter rope, which also needs belaying, etc.

I will say that I’m rather pleased with how the deadeyes turned out once they were all snugged down and made fast.

This weekend I also made good progress on turning some pedestals so I can get this mounted to a base finally. I don’t dare add much more while I still face the prospect of having to get it screwed down.

The absolutely tiny figure 8 on that cleet is impressive!!! I also love the idea to use weights handing off the side of the ship to mimic people working the rigging to get it into place

The weights are actually just to hold things tight while the tiny dab of glue sets. That keeps the rigging taut while I fiddle with cleats, belaying pins and rope hanks. If you’re not cheatin’, you’re not tryin’…*

Hey Namabiiru,

I've only just come across your kit. It just looks great and I know how much effort it takes. The sails are always one of those things. Most of the time they always look too big or the seams don't fit....But I wouldn't do it any other way. I'm sticking with it....

Best regards

Thank you so much for the kind words, Günther. My fear is the sails, which have resisted my best efforts, are going to ruin the entire thing. But, as you said, I will stick with it. The sails provided with the kit were much worse, if you can believe it.
