Just recently joined this forum. I retired 2+ years ago after 47 years in the construction trade. Most of my work was custom stuff.

I built ship models as a kid up until I was in my upper 20s. Now, after a 40 year hiatus, I've found the urge to get back into it.

Thanks for letting me join,

Hello from Beaufort SC! I am about to start my second ship….the Dumas shrimp boat Rusty. Looking forward to learning from this forum!

Thanks again for the warm welcomes!

It will probably be some time before I begin my builds(Heller 1/100 Soleil Royal and Maristella HMS Ontario). My wife and I are in the beginning processes of moving out of Merryland(yes, sarcasm implied) hopefully to somewhere in N. Carolina. Having lived in this house over 40 years, we have accrued TONS of stuff to go through. We are hoping to get out of here within the year. Then I will be able to set up my shop in our new forever home. Until then, I will continue to live vicariously through you good folks and your builds. :)

Welcome Outrider58 from Philadelphia! There are some posts and logs about the Heller Soleil Royale and the MarisStella HMS Ontario on this site if you haven't found them already. I have found that, for me, the best way to engage the resources on this site is to start a build log and ask questions as you go along. Many of the fine builders on this site have "been there, done that" for many of the questions I have as a relatively new wooden model ship builder (less than a year). From how to unjoin parts glued with crazy glue (nail polish remover) or PVA glue (water and heat gun), to how to ensure that your bulkheads on a plank-on-frame build are perfectly aligned fore and aft (it's all about the jig), this site is an incredible "hive mind" for those of us getting into the craft. Wishing you fair winds and full sails!
