Thanks for the welcome. I am diving into the hobby head first with Occre’s HMS Victory. While new to shipbuilding, I have been designing and building RC planes personally and military drones professionally. I am retired now, and lost my wife to cancer this past June, so I needed something to occupy the mind and hands. I look forward to learning and discussing with everyone as I progress. I got my meager workspace set up last night using a 6’ Woodworking bench with drawers from Harbor Freight. This will have to do until my house sells and I get the new house built. I planned a dedicated heated and cooled workshop for my hobbies in the new house.

Hello and welcome aboard. I spent about 25 years building and flying scale RC aircraft. My last build was a Mick Reeves Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter.

Welcome to the forum from Wetumpka. I believe you’ll enjoy looking at it every day. I know I do plus plenty of information and help.
Greeting Neighbor. I am currently off of Vaughn (near Wyn Lakes) but moving east to Cecil. I bought a large property to build a smaller house and workshop on.

Greetings to you too. I live near the casino in Wetumpka. Glad to know there is other people with similar hobbies nearby. My current workshop is in a heated and air conditioned garage. Good luck with your new workshop. Nothing better than to have a dedicated space for our hobbies.

It is a weird situation. I lost my wife to cancer in June. We have 7800 sqft place, and I bought the daughter and grandson a 4200 sqft house in Pike Road. It made little sense to have 12,000 sqft for three people. So we are downsizing to 4500 sqft, with me on the 1st floor and them with the upstairs. Plus, a heated and cooled RV Barn with a 25'x35' workshop for the hobbies.

I’m so sorry about your loss. I hate the C word. I had a kidney removed due to cancer in 2017. So far cancer free since. Always on my mind but modeling helps to forget bad things for a while. My wife and me downsized in 2021 due to a job opportunity. Lost some space but I was able to use half of a one car garage. I posted pictures a month or two ago. I don’t remember the thread I posted on. I would have to look it up.

Welcome aboard from Connecticut! Sorry to hear about your loss. I have discovered that boat building has a steep learning curve. May I suggest you peruse this area of the forms.

There is also a treasure trove of videos on you tube to explore.

I usually recommend that you usually start on something much less complex. Here in the USA model expo has a shipwright series of 3 more and more complex models that are fun and give you a good foundation for your major project.

Model Shipways Shipwright Series

There are also excellent build logs of almost any ship you can think of that will help.

We are all here to help each other. I doubt I would have gotten this far without the input of the rest of the crew!

I had the same thought and have already ordered the shipright series, while have the skills from my RC aircraft design and building days, there are other skills I need to practice and master.

With your RC building you probably have most of the tools you need. I have found you can never have too many clamps, from clothespins to modified binder clips, and of course the all important green cutting mat.
