Hello everyone,
my name is Stefano and I am from Italy. I am new to this community, although I have already been browsing a few threads that were very interesting to me.
After watching a long run of the One Piece anime, I started feeling the desire to build something pirate-themed. I am a 3D modeller and also an artist, but I do not own a 3D printer and I have no real experience with wooden ship modelling. Still, I thought: why not give it a try?
After doing quite a lot of research, I came across the Black Pearl model by ZHL and also the scratch-building plans by Mellpapa. However, for the time being, those projects felt a bit too large and ambitious for my current level, so I decided to start with something similar but more manageable: the OcCre Black Swan.
I am aware that this kit may have some limitations, such as inconsistent scale in some details, fragile parts, imperfect fittings, and other issues. My idea is not necessarily to build it exactly out of the box, but rather to use it as the basis for a more detailed and plausible pirate ship, inspired by late 17th- and early 18th-century vessels.
I am especially interested in improving the realism of the stern, deck details, lanterns, possible visible interior areas, and perhaps adding some resin 3D-printed accessories.
I am still learning proper naval terminology and I know very little about shipbuilding, so I may ask some basic questions. However, I would like to approach the project seriously and learn as much as possible from more experienced builders.
I will probably open a separate build log for the Black Swan project, where I can discuss the modifications in more detail.
Thank you for having me here.
Best regards,
Stefano
