Hello everybody
I must confess to stalking you and your site for a couple of months now. WOW!!!!
I became interested in model ship building by accident really. When I was first dating my now husband of MANY years, I gave him the Sergal kit for the bomb vessel Racehorse. He started the build, but as soon as he realized that he would need to do the actual planking he gave up and put it aside. Fast forward to 2019 and I unearthed the model and kit whilst cleaning. I decided to give it a go because I LOVE problem solving and making things and I thought what better way to learn about ships (the family are all mad about sailing). The universe then gave me isolation in 2020 to really deep dive into the making her. I finished her in early 2021.
Now completely addicted, I persuaded my husband to get me another kit. This time the Constructo Enterprise. This was such a pleasure to build. I finished her in Mid 2022.
I retired at the beginning of 2022 and so now had plenty of time to work of my ship building.
My next one was the Mamoli HMS Beagle. WHAT a disaster. The false keel was warped not just in the bow to stern line but also in the port to starboard line. A real corkscrew!. The wood was so old that it literally crumbled. The kit was missing pieces or pieces were so poorly made I could not use them. Instead of just tossing it into the bin, I decided to use it as a learning experience. I am, finally, in the middle of the rigging. I hope to have it finished by the end of the month.
My motivation to get it finished so quickly is because my husband really spoiled me and bought me the OcCre HMS Victory, special edition, #605 of 999. I am so excited to start working on it.
I look forward to chatting to you all

Jen,
Welcome to the forums. Your work is wonderful! I'm excited to see what you can do with that Victory kit ! I hope you will consider making a build log so we can all follow along with your work. :)

Thank you everyone.
I certainly INTEND to create a build log..... I just need to find the discipline of actually taking pics and posting my progress.....

You'll enjoy this site - so much to be learned by reading the old stuff, and so much more if you ask a question.

Do you have plans to use some South African timbers? I have some Zambezi red wood that is looking for a suitable job. Though, for ships, it could only be a deck fitting of some sort, being hard and brittle. Some good black woods though...

Welcome

Jim

Jim, thank you.
I already have learned soooo much from the site. Moving forward, and the reason I joined properly, is so that I can be a real part of this amazing community.
I have never even considered using RSA wood. Up until now I have used the wood provided in kits and what I can get from our hobby shop Jix.
Maybe in the future? You have planted a seed. Many thanks for the offer.
