Hello.

I am a new ship modeller from the Netherlands. I have been a modeller of some form or another since I was little, and the bulk of my builds have been railway models - mostly scratchbuilds of British steam era engines and wagons. I have stepped into shipbuilding as I have always been fascinated by sailing ships, and am currently halfway or so through the Model Shipways 18th Century Longboat kit. I have plenty of tools, for wood and metalwork - I have a lathe, and a full woodworking shop here at home - and thus made the step easy-ish... planking is quite the challenge! A new plank bender iron has helped a lot.

I look forward to learning from everyone here!

Being close to the Dommel i have easy access to water to play in.

Welcome aboard, Amanda! This is a very helpful and resourceful site, with much information that is useful to model makers of all levels. Do consider creating a build log (even for your longboat). Doing build logs is often the best way to interact with the members on this site. I have received much helpful advice about building ships in wood, paper card, and plastic. Set sail for the horizon!
