After reading SOS for the past two years I think it's time I introduce myself. I'm Jeff. I currently live in Silver Spring, MD, USA but I'm preparing to retire to the state of Delaware in October. My professional background encompasses editing, computer programming and databases, historical interpretation and finally, museum work. Somewhere along the line I picked up a Masters degree in History with a focus on the American Revolution.

I have dabbled in modeling for most of my life. As a child I did plastic ships and planes, as an adolescent and adult I got into historical miniatures, then I had my 'virtual' phase where I did a lot of 3d computer modeling (this was before 3d printers were a thing!) and then a few years ago I returned to modeling ships. While I thought I'd give wood ship models a try I've found that card modeling better fits my skills, budget and workbench. Frankly, I don't have a good place to make a lot of sawdust!

Here's my current project, the USS Baltimore (Heinkel Models, 1/200th scale):

And my two previous projects (Seahorse's 1/72 US Revenue Cutter and Falkonet's 1/72 Viking ship):

Welcome!

A warm welcome aboard Jeff.
Nothing wrong with card modeling. I have seen magnificent models that I never thought were possible with cardboard.
