Guns color

I am working on San Juan Nepomuceno and trying to copy a color for guns. On some videos on-line these guns are painted black, imitating black iron, and on some -gold, imitating probably bronze. This ship is from 17 century. Does anybody know what material was used to make guns at that time?

i do not think there was just one material i think iron and bronze were both used
