H.M.S Minerva plank on frame 1/48 scale - Prototype Pilot Model

Wonderful work Bryian. Congrats on bending your Blackwood wales! That jig you shared looks like it is pearwood? This prototype looks better with each new post. I think they knew putting it in the right builder's hands would make a difference. I think they made a good choice. Continued success Bryian!
An alternative would be pear. Very easy to bend, and it looks a lot like ebony when it is stained.
Black Hornbeam is pure black, waxy and workable. My choice for this situational solution.

If this comes back to life it would be great. I cannot tell from the photos but do the instructions call for the tapering of the knee of the head fore and aft? Also, the wales should be tapered in thickness as they approach the rabbet so they are the same thickness as the surrounding planking and properly seat in the rabbet.

Well, Allan, I have good news for you and for others who are interested in this kit. It never dies, it is a few-man operation from design to manufacture. It just takes time to make the one-of-a-kind kit. Brian building the pilot model where all discrepancies will be accounted. BTW, Brian is the birthday boy today... you may wish him a happy birthday along with critiques and suggestions. ;)
