Hope I'm doing this right! I am 85 years old and had not built a model for 50 years when my daughter asked me bo build a stage coach she got. It was the Artesania kit and I really enjoyed it. Now I would like to build a plank hull tugboat like the Dumas Victory or Catol Moran. However, descriptions on web sites are poor and prices seem to wander all overl For example a Victory kit from palmbayortho is about $90, and from Wooden models is $380. Are these different versions or what? My last kit was an ocean going tug (which I never built) that came in two kits, one for the boat and one for all the brass fitings. Is that why the price disrepancy? Any insights would be appreciated, and hope I have not worn out my welcome with this long message. rdc

Thanks to all of you for your welcoming words, and a Happy New Year to all! I am still shopping and, based on something I read in one of the threads, I am looking at the three level introductory kits as well. I got my interest in modelling at an early age assembling and finishing multi-layer cardboard models of US and Japanese military aircraft otiginally used for identification of friendly and hostile aircraft by spotters. Looking forward to purchase and start of build. BTW I belong to several fora dealing with my other interests, and this is one of the politest I have encountered. Thank you, rdc

just a couple thoughts. carol moran is a lot of plastic ( does make a good model though) the victory tug is planked with balsa (i havent built that) currently building sanson from artesiana latina. im quite impressed with the engineering that went into this model. there are excellent videos of this build that you could watch

Thank you, Senorbob!. Yes, I finally got to see enough pictures of the Carol Moran to see that it was more of a plastic model and thank you for your note. I was impressed to a point with the instructions from Artisania Latina that came with the stagecoach. One issue that I really found surprising was that when I got to the last critical stage, mounting the body to the chassis, both the Italian and English instructions disappeared, and all of the instructions were in Portuguese!! I also looked at the Jenny Lee and a couple of others, but I do like the looks and story of the Victory boats. Thanks again, rdc

Welcome to SoS!!!

What is PalmBayortho? Sounds like a dentist. :) :) Is Wooden Models a kit maker? I could not find anything close to that name making ship model kits.

Welcome to the forums ! If you don't have the experience building wooden ship models, I would strongly steer you toward the 3 ship starter set from Model Expo. They even have a deal that when you build the first one, send them a picture of you with your completed model and they will credit your account the entire price that you paid for the first ship !
