Welcome from the Sunshine Coast.
I can't add to what has already been posted re models of Mermaid but I am researching Queensland's coastal shipping and follow every enquiry with interest. I hope you will build this ship.
 
A very active building log with showing the progress, questions and experienced modelers trying to give hints and answers will help most.
So I suggest, that you should start such a log of your project and we all will try to help and assist as much as possible
