Checking in from Chillicothe, Il USA. My name is Tom Ruhland and I am a retired carpenter and cabinetmaker. Recently I ran across this site will researching my current build, the Robt E Lee. I must congratulate Peter Voogt on his excellent model of the above mentioned steamer. I too, like him, started this build over 20 years ago with just the hull and first deck started. Upon retiring, I finally had the time to restart the build. First I had to finish my Coast Guard boat started from an 1987 Issue of Ship in Scale. I bought a laser cutter and an resin printer to help with the details. After many youtube videos on CAD and Lightburn, I can reasonably reproduce items for my builds. I also hold a degree in photography and enjoy building dioramas and woodcarving. Most of my miniature work is all done from scratch building either from blueprints or photographs. Here is the finished Coast Guard Lifeboat. The hull is carved from a solid block of wood.

@Tom Ruhland, Welcome aboard to this site.
A great group of modeler's who don't mind sharing information amongst one another to help each other with their builds.
You'll be a regular in no time.

I know exactly where you are from as I used to live in the Peoria area (East Peoria & Washington) for about 7 years while working for Caterpillar (2006 - 2013).
I've driven thru Chillicothe many a time while traveling North on 29 to get to I-80 or to get to the small Caterpillar engineering center ( a leased building).
Did they ever bring the train service back to Peoria as there was some talk about it at that time?

There is still talk of high speed trains coming through here but I not sure if it will ever materialize. Caterpillar tech center still going strong but HQ moved to Texas. Thanks for reaching out. Looking forward to sharing and receiving info. Tom
