I'm a German railroad project engineer and software developer with Spanish roots. I've been retired for a few months now and have decided to revive a long-forgotten hobby. During my honeymoon in 1989, I bought the "HMS Grimsby" kit from "DISET Constructo". After I had more or less finished the hull, I put the model aside, and it disappeared into obscurity. Now I've taken it out again, and I'm currently working on the rigging.

I plan to build more models since I enjoy this hobby so much. I'll limit myself to smaller models like sloops, schooners, brigs, cutters, and luggers in 1:64 or 1:72 scale. I particularly favor models from "Vanguard Models". I also find the models from "Master Korabel" and "Eskadra" very interesting.

The next model will be the "HM cutter Sherbourne" from "Vanguard Models", which I've already bought. I'm as excited as a child and enjoying every minute of building it.

Welcome, Jose.
We had mirror image careers -- I retired from the Navy, then got interested in 7-1/2" riding reailroads. –– –– - ––

Thank you very much for the cordial welcome to the forum.
Special thanks to Kurt and Werner both born in Wiesbaden. I worked for 18 years near Wiesbaden in Frankfurt.

I will soon post some pictures of my current project, the "HMS Grimsby" and I will write a few words about the name, the vessel type and the probable protype vessel.

Hi Pat

model railroading is also a hobby of mine. However, I cannot ride on it ;).
My model railroad is based on the Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) in HO.

RussF - My wife and I just vacationed in Ithaca and we enjoyed the Fingerlakes Boating Museum! Here are some pics from that visit. A great museum (if you can find it up Lake Cayuga)!

I'm glad you enjoyed the boating museum. I've been there many times. I must make one small correction, however. The museum is in Hammondsport, which is on Keuka Lake, not Cayuga. I hope you also had the opportunity to visit the Glenn Curtiss museum while you were in Hammondsport.

Thanks for the info RussF! My sister and brother-in-law just retired to Dryden NY, so we are planning to come back up to the Finger Lakes region soon. I have a soft spot in my heart for Curtiss planes, as I grew up in a "company town" for the local Curtiss-Wright plane (engine) factory in NJ. I will be sure to check out the Glenn Curtiss Museum when we come back.
