Sure thing Jim,
I'm new to all this, so I'd love to know what folks would want to see in the photos of HMS Surprise? I'm a member at the San Diego Maritime Museum, so I can visit anytime and often, but for my first assignment, what should be the focus? Feel free to send requests to my SOS profile in a conversation to keep from crowding out poor John's thread. ;).
Cheers,
Eric

No big deal Eric. I recent got the photo etched stove for the Surprise and would like to see a pic of it’s placement. No rush.

Guys, wish to go more into why I am here.

Last year, Sept 30, my son took his life in the backyard of our home. I followed him out back as he came downstairs crying. I followed, he turned around, drew a pistol and shot himself in the head. He was on a slippery slope the past year leading up to this, but that’s another story.

I was diagnosed with PTSD, I still get upset when I hear a helicopter fly over as he was life flghted to the trama center. I took a month off work and started seeing a therapist.

I have always built models, but I am far from a expert. I was cruising the internet to find something to do with my hands to keep me occupied and my doctor thought it was a good idea. I came across the DeAgostini site. I always wanted to build a Soleil Royal, but painting all the stuff on a 1/100 scale Heller kit just did not appeal to me. Plus the DeAgostini was in monthly payments which the Admiral was receptive to. And that lead to the HMS Surprise 7 months later.

I work from home as a engineer tech writing manuals for water and sewer facilities. At times I can not sleep, so if you see me posting all hours of the day, that is why. I’ll do some real work, build some, just to keep my mind free.

Anyway, thats why I am here, it is therapy and a outlet. Like I said I’m far from a expert, but enjoy maritime history and at times I operate ham radio stations aboard museum ships. My avatar pic was during a operation aboard the USS Batfish submarine.

Thanks for the venting. Attached is a pic of me and my son at infantry graduation at Ft Benning.97C62527-B9D7-464E-B4E0-B203D6E24946.jpeg

John, it is certainly a very sad story of yours. When parents have to bury their children...that's awful and devastated. I am speechless with all my heart, and wish you speedy recovery (if this ever possible...) In the same time, I am glad that SOS family can be somehow a relive for you, and help you feeling better and stronger. Amen...

greetings John
you will find this more than a forum of model ship builders it is a family of like minded people.

I understand what you are going through, I too lost my son years ago. He was such a talented artist and I sit some days and wonder what if? why? I saw it coming I knew down deep what is going to happen. Today I realize there was nothing I or anyone could do makes me wonder if there is a plan and things are meant to be.

SO SORRY JOHN AND TO DAVE ALSO, TO ME YES THERE IS A HIGHER POWER AND IT IS JESUS CHRIST MY LORD AND SAVIOR, AND I PUT MY TRUST IN HIM, NOW. HE LEADS US TO WAYS TO HEAL. Don

Thanks Dave, and sorry for your loss. It is hard to deal, with and understand at times, but we just plug along.
