I haven't built a model since the mid 1950's, and that was a plastic plane. I retired at 70 from an office job and started trying to find a hobby. I live in the country on an acreage so I'm always doing something, but I decided to scratch build battleship cribbage boards. I created about a dozen different boards over the next two years, (battleships, Liberty ship, sailboats, monitors, Scuffy the Tugboat, and riverboats),- but burned out after I was ghosted on a commissioned riverboat. That was 3 years ago and my daughter insisted I tell her what I wanted for Father's Day. I've been bemoaning the fact that I've lost interest in 'toys', and I said get me a wooden boat model. I now have an Albatros and I'm a babe in the woods, but I'm watching videos and lucky to have the tools I need. I know I have the skill but not the knowledge, so I'll be checking in from time to time. I'm marking parts and trying to identify which planks are which at this point. It's good to have a new adventure!

Welcome to the forums !
The Albatross is a great kit to start with. :)
If you haven't already, I recommend you review the information in the section "Beginners Corner - How to get started". Here is a link below:
How to get started
I'm sure that will answer some of your questions right off the bat.
If you have any other questions, you can certainly ask on the forums here and I'm pretty sure you will get more answers than you want. :)

I was reminded that I have built a wooden boat before, but it's not like the Albatros! In 1985 I worked for my father's art business and we were contracted to create exhibits for the new Iowa State Historical Museum being built at the time. They wanted a miniature of a boat used on the Mississippi called a Lightering. We couldn't find any plans but there were a few pictures. It was basically a 30' long keel boat used to offload cargo when the river was low. It was built from scratch and guessing as to dimensions. The planks were redwood strips, I think. This is 1/6 scale, so it's 5' long. I took this picture last year, so it's been displayed at the museum for 40 years!
