this sometimes the problem with such starter kits, that the quality of the timber and other parts are not the best. And the final result is very often, that the beginner is not satisfied or more problematic frustrated about the progress and the appearance of the model. And often it is the first and the last model he/she is building.
One advantage is with the Costa Dorada is the fact, that she needs painting, so the wood, with filler, sanded and painted is not visible any more. You could show us some photos of the timber quality and we can try to see if she is possible to built or what to do with the kit. Maybe you should leave her in the box and think about another model. And afterwards with some experience of a first model, it will be much easier for you to decide to build her or to sell the kit untouched.
Which kit to recommend? -> Which ships are interesting for you? Your first decision with the Costa Dorada is already special, a relatively modern fishing boat, looking more than a RC-model, than a static model........Maybe you tell us which kind of ships you like, or what is important for you, and than we can try to make recommendations.......WE are here to assist and give hints

This model would need so much filler that it may as well have been made with matchsticks and then filled. I'm really pissed with the quality. Sorry I have no photos. My only camera is one on my old Nokia Windows phone. I packed this thing up and put it in my cellar.
I want a nice model ship that looks antique and with guns and stuff. One that looks interesting. Something from the 18 or 19 centuries.

This sounds not very good.......I mean the quality of the kit!
Than I would recommend, to take this as experience, never buy a kit without looking inside the box.
Now what to recommend as an alternative? The first kit was in scale 1:40, big scale usually is easier to built than smaller scales (my opinion, others opinion differs maybe), but f.e. my first lit builts were in scale 1:64 and made some relatively good results. I made several Jotika kits which have very good timber quality and good manuals (which is very important in the beginning). But also the russian manufacturer Master Korabel seems to be very interesting for you, maybe the gunboat).
I recommend usually also not too much masts, so one or two masts, this will result in enough rigging works. But we know also modelers, which built as a first model the HMS Victory and afterwards the Santisima Trinidad, with very good results.........
I think you should first click through our different building logs and take a look at the different models, start realy every time on the first post and you will see very fast, which kind of models would fit for you......A forum like this is helping very much to get insight in the pros and cons of some kits.

Than take a look at the ship from jotika / caldercraft with only one mast -> less rigging.....-f.e. The gunboat in scale 1:32 is a real nice ship in big scale and less rigging..—
