My name is Rich , I'm newly retired from multiple careers including Engineering (the bulk of my working life - Aeronautical/Mechanical), IT, as well as wooden boatbuilding and repair. I'm also a Photographer, Musician (54 years as a drummer, and now learning bass). My wife and I own a wooden Friendship Sloop, and sail her along the coast of Maine. Finally, my wife and I are also avid scuba divers.

I've built one wooden boat model, the Midwest Dory below.

Also a member of Model Ship World. and Dry Dock Modeler.

welcome to sos.
Model Expo has several other beginner's kits In their lineup. A very helpful.and friendly company dedicated to ship modelers.
If you break a part or make a mistake they will.replace it for free.
Secondly if you do a build log other members will follow along and answer any questions that might arise.
Happy m modeling,
Ted

Welcome aboard Rich. What a great career you've had. Did the Midwest Dory kit include the barrel or did you add that yourself? I'm currently working on a water barrel for the Willie L. Bennett skipjack and it is a challenging little piece of construction, almost like planking a hull.

Thanks.

The barrel was part of the Midwest kit when I built it in the late 90's.

Welcome aboard Rich from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts! What are you planning to build next?

Thanks DocTom. I was born in Somerville myself!

My first boat build will be the Model Shipways 18th Century Longboat. But before that I'm going to build the Model Shipways Sea Mortar, just to get back into the swing of working with wood kits again.
