Hello from Mallorca, Spain

Welcome to SoS! You will find many folx on this site who like to build classic racing yachts from the 1900s like the Phantom. I'm building a half-hull model of one of Herreshoff's yacht designs, the Shadow. Doing a build log of the Shadow now and hoping to wrap up this build in a few weeks.

Good luck and enjoy the many great resources (build logs, classes, group builds, experienced model builders, and plans) available on SoS. May the winds be always at your back!

New to this forum, I consider a privilege to be among you.
I've just dowloaded the Chuck Pessaro's guide to build the Phantom I ordered yesterday from Amazon.
Best regards
First, welcome!

Second, if you purchased the newer Model Shipways 1:48 scale offering of Phantom, the guide you mention may not be as useful to you as expected. The guide is based on the previously produced 1:96 scale solid hull model, not the 1:48 plank on bulkhead model. While still not specific to the Model Shipways' kit, you may find the publication 'Working Techniques for Model Shipbuilding' by Robert Volk and Peter Davies-Garner. This is available through KOBO - not sure about other outlets. Within the text, they discuss a number of shortcomings of the 1:96 scale model kit and why they decided to build a 1:48 scale model of Phantom from scratch. Some of the modifications that they make can be incorporated into the Model Shipways kit. Personally, I believe that none of the shortcomings of the 1:96 model were dealt with in the 1:48 scale model, and in fact new shortcomings have been added.
