Hello from Wisconsin

Welcome to possibly another Packer Backer!

My uncle used to live in Green Bay, my dad's family was from De Pere WI, been many a year ago I last visited up north.
Definitely a Packer Backer; in fact I grew up close enough to Lambeau Field to hear the cheers when the Packers scored!

My uncle lived about 10 blocks away, used to get cash for parking cars in his yard and driveway on game day. Offered to take me to most any home game if I came to town during season.

He was City Heath Inspector, and they "had to" go to games to check out food venders and other such health items, could stay, but no seats.

When my daughter was in high school she was involved in a team that had concessions at the Packer games. Of course it was staffed by parents, so I fried a lot of cheese curds and grilled a lot of hamburgers there. What impressed me was that the food was inspected at quite a regular basis throughout the game. Everything cooked needed to pass the temperature test when the inspectors came by. Pretty high quality control! Can't recall ever hearing of someone getting sick on the food (unless you call beer food - which I guess it is up here).

Hi from Duluth! Other than University of Michigan football, I don’t follow sports. However, lots of Packer Fans here in what we call the Northland; especially on the other shore of the harbor at Superior, Wisconsin.

Roger -

For some reason I'm not a huge college football fan, I like it more on the pro level; however, I think college basketball is much better to watch than pro basketball. My sports following is Packers and I keep up with the going on's in the NFL, especially the NFC, but my biggest sports interest is in professional bicycle racing - I spend way to much time using VPN software to watch European races live!

I've seen / read your posts for a long time and noticed you were up in the Duluth area. I wanted to ask you if you have explored the maritime / plans collection at UW-Superior. The main reason I ask is that I hear they may be a little understaffed / disorganized with the collection. At the same time, I have a request from an organization in Green Bay to build a model of a Mackinaw boat. I have been thinking I may need to use the lines published by Chappelle, but I was curious if there may be additional plans in the Superior collection that you may have seen, if you had looked at their collection.

Thanks,

Greg

I am familiar with with the UWS archival collections. After retiring I spent a number of years volunteering as a historian foe the Whaleback Steamship museum SS Meteor. This result in authoring a book; Whaleback Ships and the American Steel Barge Company published by Wayne State University Press. Unfortunately their curator retired a year or so ago. I occasionally see her about town I’ll ask her if I see her about what they night have.

They’re supposed to have the two relevant volumes of the HAMMS survey. I believe that there’s an index of these on line. If you can find it and if anything looks interesting let me know and I’ll visit them.

Thank you so much for your generous offer!

From what I can find there should be something is Volume 2, Part C according to the Smithsonian's website. It's a five hour drive from Green Bay to Superior, so I haven't yet driven up there. I had been Provost at UW-Green Bay for a number of years and always had wished one of the UW-System Board of Regents meetings would have been held there so I would need to take the trip, but this never happened - visited nearly every other UW campus but not the one I wanted to see! If you happen by UW-Superior perhaps you can find this:
