Hello,

I am new to wood model ship building and enjoying the forums. I plan on starting on a Colin Archer kit in a month or two after practicing with a couple of Temu kits.

Hello Fred from Florida, I'm Frank from Florida (High Springs). Total newbie myself. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the fray Fred. There are a couple ship model clubs, one in Naples, one in Tampa should you be on this side of the state and care to meet likeminded folks. Not sure about the east coast or central part of the state.

Welcome Fred! You will find that this site is very helpful and encouraging for new model boatbuilders. I've only been in the hobby for less than a year, but this site has seen me through 5 builds, including the Esmeralda Chilean training ship, the HMS Victory hull-only build, the Maine Peapod Lobster Boat, and a Schuylkill River Dragon Boat. The best way to get engaged is to start a build log (you can find a couple of my build logs in the forums) and share your progress on your builds. I sometimes put questions in bold in my logs for SoS members, and I've gotten so much good advice on things like paints/stains, adhesives(and how to undo them), naval history, "kit-bashing," and model ship building best practices. Don't worry about starting slow...my first few builds were designed to engage basic skills like using power tools, planking a ship of the line, rigging, paints & stains, fairing the hull, sail making, and scale model presentation. There is time to graduate to more "intense" builds (my wish-list includes the Nippon Maru and the Sant Juan Bautista), but for now I'm just fine learning how to scratch build wooden ships from books and online design plans. Fair winds and full sails!

Hey Fred,
Definitely a great diving spot, although I personally never had any desire to go into a cave. Strictly open water for me. You'll have to let me know next time you're in town

Welcome fellow Floridian Fred !

Bill from WPB area !

Current builds in progress:
DiAgostini 1/84 HMS Victory
ZHL 1/50 All Scenario Black Pearl
