I am Patrick and live in Holland. started building modeling kits this year after i had to drop airbrushing and fish breeding because of Some disseases . Tried to post a topic here but cant see it in the list so hello again. I started building Some plastic kits from revell and when i was in the shop to buy a new kit i Saw this beautiful kit from constructo the h.m.s victory. So i started this week with the kit. I hope i can learn a lot here and if someone has Some tips for me what kind of electric tools i can use so i can work without using to Much muscle force because of reumatism and weak bones That i break easally i would be happy.

A warm welcome from Down Under.

There is a topic on Tools I will need on my first build. You won't need all of these for starters and a lot of them are just nice to have. Best to buy the basic tools and then add to them as you require

A good start is to read some build logs and get a feel of how your ship. It doesn't necessarily have to be the ship you are building.

You will get advice from fellow modelers but you need to start a build log so you can ask questions and get advice.

Welcome aboard. This is a great hobby and having fun building is what it is all about.
The HMS Victory is a pretty advanced model to be your first wooden model. Thus, I agree with what Geoff said.
Do a lot of dry fitting and make sure that it seems right before you glue anything. Red the instructions carefully and make sure you understand them before proceeding. There is a lot of very experienced modelers on this site and they love answering questions.
Get a pencil and paper handy and read a lot of the logs here. Write down the information you find that will be helpful. There is a lot of books on building that provide tremendous advice. Building a good library for yourself is also important.

welcome aboard and a good all around tool that isnt too bad and can help you with some carving and stuff would be a good Dremel tool. and some hand chisels. once you get the chisels sharpened and off the factory edge it doesnt take much pressure to use them. but before even that you need to hone the back of them to make sure they are very flat or you will never get a good edge on them as most have little hollow spots on the back and arent flat

Hi Pat and welcome !
I know how you feel, holding and using my Xacto Knife gets to me at some point. However, there are some exacto knives that are larger. I know it is not an electric tool. This is probably not accurate to say, but about 50% of your box is going to be lazer cut as you probably have found out.

Ok, so I used a Ryobi Scroll Saw to cut the TABS loose from the laser cut pieces since the ply is so thick. This is how I did it: (saved my fingers from manually cutting out the Bulkheads)

The only other tool I might suggest is something like a Dremel with a variety pack of accessories. Harbor Freight also makes rotary tools and Proxxon as well.
Right now, I can't think of any other power tools unless you want to invest in a LATHE for making your mast and yards. I highly suggest Sherline for this. But some folks here also have bought the Micromark lathe and of which both are good.

Lastly, my HOME page, I have a link below that I put together that has a long list of manual hand tools as well.

I do not have a belt sander but I do have a pensander. You do need to buy the power pack for it as well. See your local dealer not the one I have listed here for Australia.

I also have a disk sander, I think mine is smaller than this but they might not make mine any more

I think this is the sander you are talking about
