I can relate. When I was a teenager I built several plastic ship, airplane, and car models, then added metal car models. In my early 20s I bought a wood ship model kit - the Charles W Morgan by Artisania Latina - which I started and then found I was way over my head. I put the kit away in the garage. A couple of additional degrees, marriage, kids, working 50-60 hours a week left no time to tackle this. After retiring I picked the kit back up. With YouTube and a forum like SoS I was able to learn techniques to complete this model. I’m hooked!Hi everyone. I am very new to building wooden ship models. I have been interested for over 20 years i just never took the plunge due to my work schedule. I have worked 60 to 70 hours a week most of my life. I was also gone from home alot. I have beeb looking at the buccaneer from occre as I want something a little challenging also with some rigging. I am not working now due to my health and figured i might take the plunge. I have build model cars tanks and planes a few times though work usually got in the way. Also have painted a few miniaturss. I have just always wanted to give this hobby a try. I live in USA east tennessee
Also if have any other recommendations on starter ships please let me know. I will research them. Also like something with history behind the vessel.
Thank you everyone
Nice to meet all of you

Welcome to the forums !First Post....I'm slouching towards 80 with back problems that required me to sell our sailboat. So, now I'm building model ships which I have wanted to do for years. Before that I have build and flown free flight aircraft (balsa and tissue). Just a building fool!
My interest is with the Arctic and Antarctic and the ships that were used. Presently, the James Caird is almost finished. The Endurance is next to be followed by the Fram. What I really would like is an accurate plan of the Yelcho tug that was used to rescue the men from Elephant Island.
I've got enough to keep me out of the saloons for awhile. (From the Lakehurst,NJ area)

By the way, while it probably is a good idea to start with a beginners kit if you like challenges, are detailed oriented, and patient I personally don’t see a real issue with starting with an intermediate kit. View attachment 522809View attachment 522810
