My husband recently passed away and didn’t finish the Viking ship model he was working on. As a tribute and legacy, would like to hire someone to finish it and give to my daughter. Any one for hire to finish it?

Attached some pictures.

Thanks for your help.

Hi BJ,
First, please accept my sincere condolences.

It is never a good idea to post your email address on any public forum. I suggest you take it down and communicate via PM where you can exchange email addresses and such. You may get some good responses if you post your budget for the build. Keep in mind shipping of a finished model by a reputable company that handles delicate items such as antiques can be very expensive. Good luck, I really hope your thoughtfulness for this project turns out well for you and your family.

Hi B-J. I gave your post a ‘like’. Not because of the story, but for the fact that you made a account on this SoS. In the hope that someone is willing to help you.
My condolences with the lost of your husband. I hope the ship will be completed and will become a beautiful keepsake for your daughter.
Regards, Peter

Sorry for your loss, and I wish you success finding a capable builder to complete the project. I would gladly take it on for expenses only, but I’m on the wrong side of the ocean to offer more than moral support.

Sorry for your loss. Wish I could provide help because I understand how meaningful it would be to have this finished. I only started this hobby this year so I don't feel I could do justice on that type of build. Praying that someone will see your message and provide the expertise to finish your husband's ship.

Hello B-J, my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband.

Allan @AllanKP69 in a few posts back mentioned the expense of shipping a completed model and I agree with him, it will probably be very expensive. There is another option but it might mean a little research locally. There are many model ship clubs in the US with a keen following of members that may be able to help you. I am not familiar with your location but the attached list of Model Ship Clubs in the US may help you find someone within driving distance who can help construct the Viking ship.

I’m sorry for your loss. To keep this within a reasonable cost, I would suggest that you have whomever you select, finish the boat in two parts; the hull, and the mast and sail. This will save on shipping and minimize the chance for damage. Either you or your daughter can step the mast with its sail and secure the few lines to stabilize it. Nota big or difficult job.

Great idea!!! Thanks !!

Hi B-J, please accept all of our condolences. I am in Baton Rouge which I am guessing is about 2.5 hours from you. I would be williing to help and I would not want any pay.... It looks like your husband had made a good bit of progress on the ship and I would be willing to complete it...however, I cannot promise that it would be quick....I can only devote a few hours a week as I have more unfinished projects now that my wife in constantly reminding me need attention...but, if you can't find anyone else, I am willing to do what I can.

So sorry for your loss, my sincere condolences.
I wish I lived closer and could help build this for your daughter. If any reason for motivating a model build, this honour and tribute to your husband is paramount

My condolences on your husband’s passing. At 80, I am familiar with that happening more and more with friends.

It might mean more to your daughter unfinished. It would give her an opportunity to possess something that was special to her father and did not involve someone else. The hull looks finished and your husband did a good job. I’d recommend taking the plywood pieces out along with the clothes pins and present it as is.
