Hi all, well I’ve completed the first three kits from Model Shipways (Dory, Pram and Lobster Smack) and decided to move on to something larger. I chose the HMS Endeavour from OcCre. I am surprised that there are no part numbers on ANY of the laser cut pieces. Great photos and videos, but that doesn’t help me to identify parts, large (bulwarks) or small! Does anyone know if there is a schematic out there to help identify the numbered parts in the photos with the non-numbered parts on the laser cuts? I feel like I’m in way over my head! Is it just me?IMG_2040.jpegIMG_2046.jpegIMG_2048.jpeg

Yes, I also find sketches with all numbers. Download instructions from Occres site, maybe they are not completly printed?
Ok, fine that you found them.
I like the scale 1/54, easier to build than the smaller scales I think.

The only parts I usually need to number are the hull frames. Getting two of the frames interchanged near midships will affect the hull shape in a way that is only apparent halfway through planking. Number the parts with a pencil if there is any doubt that parts could be confused with one another.

Hey Laro,

very nice. I can't wait to see how you manage that. I think you can do it. I'll stay on the ball and keep an eye on your progress. The tip Alan gave you would have been mine too. But the OcCre website or customer service could also help you.

Best regards

P.S. A friend is also building the Endevour. He has been doing this for 9 years.....

9 years!? I am good with the wood, but I’m fearing the rigging and the sails!

Included with the instruction sheets should be some sheets that are pictures of each piece of laser cut wood. Copy the numbers on the sheets on to the wood with very light pencil that can be erased. That is the way OcCre works.

We can help with the rigging and sails. Your end results will be worth the effort. First look for posts on home made rigging tools like a fork and a hook. Then search the forum om sail making. Lots to read, lots to learn, more reserach than rigging. My build log for La Couronne is a place to start and it goes step by step. Remember to ask lots of questions on this forum. I made full sails for a man of war and they turned out decent for a first run. You will be making a sail jig for sail stretching and starching out of small lengths of wood. Easy tool to craft with home carpentry tools and glue.

Yes, this is my first OcCre build. And my biggest. Learning all their building nuances. Their Customer Svc has been very helpful so far with my questions. Like I said, I’m good with working with the wood, but the rigging and sails make me anxious.

Rigging and sails are feared by many, but not as hard as it looks.

Lots of good books on how to for both, and lots of folks here to help.

The one suggestion the guy who taught me as a beginner was, not to glue masts into hull, this allows for removal for working if needed or for storage and shipping if you have to. Masts get held in place by fit and all the rigging attached.

I can’t believe I missed that! Thank you! I appreciate it. I’ll try my best to do this. 747 or not.
I still took a pencil and identified them individually on the first couple that I did and it helped a lot. It also let you separate pieces you won’t need for a while

Hey Laro,

yes, it took him 9 years. But thank goodness he was allowed to work on the side and provide for his family ;-)
Rigging is always a challenge. But I'm sure help will be given here. I still have to get through it too. My Athena is also being fully rigged and sails are being sewn by hand.
I will follow and marvel at your construction report.

Cheers
