Anyone know if I should use this as a template or do I fit it ?
That final picture looks as if it’s fitted because of the thickness.
Any ideas please.

But I have doubts about the two round holes in the second picture. I think you need to do them later...

Hi Neilm,

The question is, where did you get this rear part? Is it out of the kit?

Hi Neil,

I built another English ship (Kingfisher) and the kit provided a part that looks identical to what you are showing. But the stern of the Kingfisher is curved and bending the kit supplied part was not possible at my scale. I ended up scratch building a suitable replacement. That said, I don't know if the Enterprise has a curved or flat stern - or if that distinction is important to you (or not).

Anyway, just trying to help in some small way...

Hey Paul,

Your Kingfisher is an absolute dream. Respect and appreciation!ThumbsupThumbsup

Hey neilm,
I think it's the HMS Enterprize from 1774, which also has the two extinguishers. The stern is certainly a bit curved, as with all ships from this era.

I believe that would be the piece that goes on the ship. I think if it were meant to be a template, it would be much more involved. Plus, if it were a template, then the kit would have the components that you would make the part out of.

Many thank lovely people.
Fitted now and taking shape.
Will post a few up to date pictures tomorrow.
Thanks for all your contributions.

For me, the planking across the stern timbers and especially the taffrail are the most difficult part of the stern assembly. The planking and the taffrail are shaped to follow the shear of the five stern lights/windows as well has the bend of the counter timbers. The planking is a little difficult, the taffrail a lot more of a challenge.

Update:
Real awkward angles to clamp these parts onto the bow and stern. Not the best by far but, hey, half the world’s starving so I can live with it.
Still quite a bit of final sanding to do, but getting there.
Also those minute PEtch. Parts. Some parts smaller than a pin head of glue. Could be very messy looking.
