Hello Paul, our taking up the hobby of ship modelling at a later stage in life seems to mirroer each other.Welcome Paul, I am not far from you, just on the edge of West Bromwich. I am 76 years old and trying to complete my model of the Amerigo Vespuccii.
I hit the 4 score years this year so onwards and upwards. Still feel 21 (I wish!).
How are you progressing with you build?
I see you have HMS Agamemnon on your "To Do list" One of ships also on my list, but not the Victory for me. They are both from the same period.
My favourite ship to build would be either the Anne 1686 or the Lennox 1678 from the Navy of King Charles II. This would be scratch built, but it is a period of truly beautiful ships that are very seldom modelled and for which no kits are available.
I have a modest library of books on ships of this era including their construction and rigging methods. If you need any info please let me know and I will try to help.
Best wishes Derek
