Hi new on the block. I'am a beginner little experience. I have the Scientific Models Constitution kit# 300, and the Thermopylae kit 182. Any comments?

Hallo @PeterB
we wish you all the BEST and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Birthday-Cake
Welcome! The Scientific kit of Thermopylae is a nice kit that is easily detailed. I was in rehab following surgery earlier this year and there was a completed that was on display in the lounge that was superbly built.

The Scientific kit of the Constitution is a little more basic. There is no gundeck for the main armament and the kit designer simply calls for the builder to cut out gun port lids out of cardboard. That said, it is large enough to attempt extra detailing. For example, The Model Shipways book The Neophyte Ship Modeler's Jackstay does show how to carve out pre-carved decks and rebuild them for more realism. It's worth it to me.

Good Luck and Happy Birthday!

Bill

Thanks for Birthday wises. After Milten here in Clearwater, lights out for 5 days. As was suggested before, start with an ease kit. Iam working on a mini Mamoli Cutty Sark MM08 1:250 in order to get the fill of things before I start my Scientific Model Constitution.

Hi Corsair, No I was not. I will have to check it out. I am in Clearwater so ts just down th road. Thanks

If you are really a beginner I would suggest you hold on to those kits for a bit and start on something easier. There can be a steep learning curve (which I am in the middle of) with wooden ships. I spent many years with plastic models, but these creatures are of a completely different nature. Luckily the tools are more or less the same (except maybe for many more clamps!). I would suggest you start with the Model expo Shipwright series of three ships. They will give you full credit when you build the dory and send you a picture.

there are many building logs on this site and also many youtube videos to help you with these.

I agree wholeheartedly.start small
