Historical relevance: heavy bolted vs flushed trunnels

Here is an old question in my head. Is it more of a stylistic personal artistic choice or is there historical relevance supporting these two choices?

Best regards

Flushed bolts/trunnels
Hallo @Jbesario
we wish you all the best and a HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Birthday-Cake

I did not know this topic before, just found it based on the b-wishes

I think historical and technical correct are the visible boltsheads - most of them, f.e. these for fixing planks and wales against the framing were flush with the plank.
but others, especially these which have to take forces like gun tackling, knees etc had slightly elevated boltheads (washers etc.)

These are exerpts of Boudriots 74 gun ship showing the inner and outer hull with the number of bolts

not sure but if you've ever walked the deck of a working ship... everything on board is trying to trip you or slam your knees n head.

i do like the look of heavy bolts though... nice detail.
