HMS Beagle by Occre. My second ship build.

Congrats! The Beagle seems to be one of the most successful kits of the moment. I also got mine a few days ago, an older Mamoli kit, as a Christmas gift from my most beloved one. Fun ahead!
 
I just ordered the beagle kit as well, but it will be my first build. Any advice you can share during your build would be very helpful. Good luck!
 
I'll do that! I need to look around the forums to get a feel of how to format a build log since I'll be new to doing that as well. I won't be starting until after Christmas.
 
It seems my Beagle is stuck in Roissy Charles DeGaulle France. Read on Facebook where a person that ordered theirs on Nov. 23, received it on Dec. 1 in Texas. I ordered on Nov. 24, and according to others on Facebook it may be stuck there for weeks. What a difference one day makes.

Simonomous, What's the status on yours?
 
I ordered mine on the 27th. it looks like it went from Spain to Belgium, and arrived in Tennessee yesterday, but is delayed in customs. Maybe it depends on where the package is routed?
 
After two weeks I'll finally make an update to my Beagle build. Most of the stuff is very uninteresting like assembling the bulkheads to the keel and lining the deck. In addition I have attached the bulwarks and almost completed lining them. Instead of the brass doors, I made them from 1/64" plywood. I did not take a picture of making these. While waiting for glue to dry I decided to start building the lifeboats. I have the frames built for all four of them. Each one is a project by itself.

Nice update, and Merry Christmas to you too! For obvious reasons, I received my Beagle today and aim to start providing updates as well. But as you mentioned, the beginning looks tedious. Do you think it would make sense to start the Beagle and the lifeboats at the same time to keep things interesting? Since this would be my first build, maybe make mistakes on the lifeboats before the Beagle?
 
Looking forward to seeing your progress as you get started. There are any number smaller mini projects you can work on to take breaks from the main hull. You can do the canons or various deck furniture pieces. Just anything to break up the monotony when working on some of the longer tasks like planking.

Finished the first planking of the hull. I have trimming, some filling, and a lot of sanding to do before I start the second plank layer. I think this was my least favorite part of the build. Final planking is not much more enjoyable but at least it starts to look good. Really looking forward to putting trim pieces and decorations on the hull.

That's amazing, with the first hull planking it's starting to look like a ship! Sorry to hear it's your least favorite part. I'm really nervous about doing both the first and second hull planking right, it seems like a 'feel' thing on how to lay everything out. Hang in there, it looks like the farther into the project, the more interesting it gets. Nice update!

Not sure why but this is one of my favourite bits! where you can feel the hull coming together and smoothing out (hopefully). Anyway like it or not - nice job you've done there so far!

Thanks for the compliment. I just want to get past the planking so that I can get to the details that make the Beagle unique. In the meantime, I have assembled the cannons, and the gunport covers for one side of the ship.20260115_185200.jpg20260115_213418.jpg20260115_213446.jpg20260115_214021.jpg
I still have to paint the covers black and the lightly sand them. Also notice the gap between the gunports and the covers. Not sure how I can fix that issue. Any ideas?

Gaps around the port covers - The second (veneer) layer can even those up I'm sure, just don't sand them quite flush to the inside of the port apertures maybe?
