HMS Druid 1776 stern cross section in scale 1/128 by Dubz Modelling World

Thank you very much for your kind comments. It's always good to read those :)

Another update. I will not following the manual now anymore and I might do stuff different .. we will see :-)

I corrected the temporary plank. CA & Aceton and a bit of heat for the wood glue, yeah, easy task :-)

I did the first deck. There is a jig in the kit to get the correct position in height. For the eye, especially in this small scale it is very important to align the deck in both directions (!) perfectly parallel to the keel.

Also the mast step were done.

Before the next step the frames were oild again and got some Ballenmattierung for a little shine. After that the rear transom plate and the rudder were done

Here you can see the deck is parallel to the keel.

Thank you Serikoff & the likes :-)

And the second deck. Manual says build it outside the hull. No way! You will never get it well aligned e.g. the bars exactly on the frames. In this scale 0.2 mm is a visible "problem" :-)

I modified the Jig in the way I could place it between the frames and so adjust the bars to the appropriate frames.

To adjust and glue the knees in I used a strip with double-sided adhesive tape.

It's important to find the right visual compromise and not always the "technical" one, where, for example, a knee really has to stick to the frame. Lost symmetry would be far more noticeable to the viewer.

As is so often the case of these kits, there was also the problem that components were undersized, in this case the knees, which are sometimes too short. I had to lengthen one of them, as otherwise the gap would have been too large and would have been noticeable.

No, she had none. Not even sure that she had the lying knees ...

Edit: learned that that is a "Hahn"-Specialty ...

The third deck were a challenge and took a while. The height jig does not work also the real height was not really clear. I tried to follow the Hahn plans here, ignoring the marks on the frames, but it took a while.

Every beam needs to be adjusted for height and the frame. That took a while and when mixup a frame it could result in some woodwork to get the beam longer again :-)

But after some days I think the result is ok. Next will bee the knees.

Thank you so much Roger, Paul and the likes.

I pretty agree how much of these kits but also the bigger ones are trash-binned. The most common problem in my opinion is being not patience. Not in building and not in wood handling (cleaning, sanding, surface treatment). I see way too many builds were people are rushing or even more, proudly announce they just needed three weeks to build (it looks exactly like this then). What I do is no rocket science, there are much much better builder. It's just about taking time and ... willing to redo stuff when it looks bad :-)

And a small update.

Knees are done. I'm also always trying to find out how far I can realize things on such a small scale. So I also tried to show a few ledges. A bit of fiddling but it works. But I won't do the whole deck with it. It is also important here that it only works - in my opinion - if there are clean right angles, if there are clean equal distances and if it can be built cleanly parallel :-)

Ok, some stuff happend :-) Gunports done, more ledges, transom, a kind of waterway on port side. Preparing changes and going freestyle in a lot of areas and trying to add stuff for more details.

Ahh and finally my typical case is done :-)

A very nice outcome on this small scale, Dirk. And it looks ‘great’ in the (also) nice display case.
Regards, Peter
