The quarter galleries for the WC. Freak these gave me plenty challenges. Mainly due to the 1mm error I made when I fixed my broken stern timbers.

Started the quarter gallery dome and added the carved scales.

The little “ hoekie ” where the “fat” little Cherub stands . ROTF.

Some pics:

The Cherub is just stuck in the “hoekie” with prestick on her butt…..ROTF

Now to make it look pretty.
Cheers Grant

Good morning. Continuing with the area around the SB quarter gallery. Added the top section, the rough tree rail and cap rails. The cannon ports are framed as well.

Whew this too a lot longer than I imagined…..

Good morning. Plenty work, little to show.

Still working on the SB cap rails……a bit messy at the moment as I am struggling to get the contemporary finish which goes with the rest of the ship. Making progress tho…… :D.

Plenty finishing to do- WIP.
IMG_0768.jpegIMG_0767.jpegIMG_0770.jpeg
I don’t know how the talented guys build each piece or joint perfectly- they never have WIP just magic….… Maybe when I’m big I will be able to model like that.
Cheers Grant

Good morning. Arlene and I went to visit my Mom in Durban this week. Man I hope I have plenty of her genes as at 85 she is as active as my ricochet rabbit:DExplosion.

I had yesterday free so I worked on my catheads and laid some more deck planks. The catheads were a mission to get right and plenty angles and cutting these with a handsaw……EishROTF.

I thought I should see if my masts fit…..should have done this as I went so I had some en trepidation…..they are not spot on re the rake, however close enough for me to adjust if I am going to include these.

I don’t show enough Pics of my whole ships progress so here goes :

Simply Beautiful!

Well, Grant, I think I'm a lot further down on that logarithmic scale than you. If I could achieve your results I'd be ecstatic.
Good morning. Thank you very much. The biggest outcome I strive for is fun. So far this hobby has definitely met my expectations :D .
Simply Beautiful!
Thank you most kindly Paul.

Good morning. Cap rails continued……

I have played with many ideas to get my finish a little contemporary. Firstly I scraped the outer edge of the rail to achieve the historically accurate look, however these came out horrid and I did not like the look and feel of the ship- especially the black gun port frames.
IMG_0825.jpegIMG_0826.png
So like many contemporary models before me I decided to line the outer edge of the cap rail and stain the gunport frames the same colour as the bulwark.

IMG_0818.jpegIMG_0819.jpegIMG_0778.jpeg
I don’t have any kit cherry wood left so I am cutting wood from my plank I bought. The grain is not as tight as the kit cherry and I am having issues bending this- just kept splitting. So alternate methods attempted.
IMG_0801.jpeg
I tried two methods to make these sharp bends.
1. I cut little sections around the bend at angles. This can be seen on the upper curve of the lining.
2. I cut the shape from a 1.5mm sheet. The lower bend and the “twirly” decoration.

IMG_0822.jpeg
Hmmmmmm……..close ups… ROTF.
I really like the overall look and feel I am getting tho:D.
Cheers Grant.
