HMS Enterprize 1774 - Shipyard

regarding being sold out... don't hesitate to email (link on their website: "email me when available") Modelnet.co.uk. It was in backorder for me too, when I first look. He went out of his way to contact the provider and get the plan in-house and even shipped them while in vacation. Amazing service... this is to be underline.

These plans look simply wonderful - color even? - a real boon to the modeler. Of course, also a double edged sword for me: I am unable to scratch build a model, and the plans will no doubt show all the inaccuracies of any model being built.

Being a retired engineer, I do love plans, however, and would consider buying some even if I'm not building the ship. But when I go to modelnet.co.uk, I don't see this or other plans by Shipyard Marine Literature. Just plans in Polish, I believe. Can you help in directing me to a site or page that lists catalogs available from SML?
Using a link that Uwe had provided earlier, I did find the plans. But the site confuses me, because there are no prices for anything! Redface

@Signet , sorry I missed your second part. let add the full link here:

In addition, you may have to select your language preference using the link at top-right of the page.

I thought I'd offer my 2 cents. I am considering a scratch build of the Enterprise at 1:48. I have downloaded several sets of plans and have been able to finely identify them as the Greenwich drawings and the Shipyard drawings shown above. I have noticed on some non museum drawings different ship names than the name on the plans. The Shipyard drawings include the name Surprise. A google search for HMS Surprise yields (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Surprise_(1796)#/media/File:Plan_of_HMS_Surprise.jpg) a drawing of Surprise that shows a stern with 7 lights. I wonder if this is the source of the 7 lights in the Shipyard drawings. I will be comparing a few lines of the Shipyard drawings to the Greenwich drawings and possibly the Surprise drawings.

Hi Warren
Which drawings from RMG do you have? I found nine plans that are all available in high res on the Wiki Commons site and in low res on the RMG site but none show the number of lights on the stern. I did notice that there are two profile plans, one as originally designed, (ZAZ3398 dated 1 January 1771) is by Williams for Fox and Syren so presumably useable for Enterprize et al. and one for Enterprize being converted to a receiving ship. (ZAZ 3388 from1787). The 1774 Joseph Marshall painting of Enterprize below shows five stern lights rather than seven. Note that the painting does not include a name on the counter as she was launched prior to 1780 when the names appeared only for about 9 to 10 years before being banned again by the Admiralty for security reasons. Do you have the original contract for her sister ship Aurora? If you don't have it and would like a transcribed copy please let me know as it gives all the scantlings that you might need for your scratch build.

I bookmarked the site for review after I move.

Hi Allan
You had me in a tizzy. I do not have a drawing showing 5 lights. I was only sharing that a drawing exists showing the 7 lights on Surprise. I have both the low rez and the high rez drawings as well as the Aurora contract. I took a close look at the counter in Marshall's painting and compared it to the upper stern image in the ship yard image. I see where the two extra lights could be replaced with the carving shown in Marshalls painting. The stern of Surprise has little in common with either except for the seven lights.

I hate to admit this but I may have spoken too soon.

Shipyard provides a little write up along with their plans. In summary, there were at least 2 HMS Surprises. The first is the Enterprize class ship built in 1774. The second is a movie set. A ship named the HMS Surprise appears in the movie “Master and Commander.” The text is akward to read so I will leave it to the reader.

Also in the text it is acknowledged “In our plans we halle [sic] presented also such version with appropriate paintings. The stern of frigate was crowned five to seven windows. Five of them belonged to great cabin and two exterior for galery (sometimes they were ,,blind) in which wre situated officer toilets.”

None of the drawings I have support the "toilet" suggestion

The information about the Surprise is included in the plans for anyone wanting to follow the movie version.
