I've had this new and updated kit for about 2 weeks now and have started assembly.
It came with the 3D parts, upgraded blocks and canons and I purchased the sails as well.
One thing you really need to do especially for me is read the 293 page manual, which seems
to start half way through. I assembled all of the bulkheads then realized my mistake later.
Had to take them all apart. There are also 4 large blueprint sheets to use.

So far I've laid the keel, built a stand, installed the bulkheads and planked the lower deck._6300004.jpg_6300006.jpg_6300039.jpg_6300040.jpg

That's a thick manual. It better include every little detail ! :)
You said you had some issues and had to take things apart, but could you elaborate, please?

Thanks !

Hi Leno, so far the quality of the parts is really good. Putting them together is another matter.
Not liking the manual very much, I find so far that you really need to go off the blueprints.

I assume you are using the manual that comes with the updated kit - the one with the step-by-step instructions and photos? I've been looking at picking this kit up. Can you elaborate on what it is about the manual you don't like. Please and thanks.

Thanks for the reply Neil. Looking forward to seeing your progress with this kit. Nice thing about little goof ups is that we learn from them. Keep up the good work and enjoy the journey of the build.

Well page 4 at the bottom says ''The first step in the construction is to assemble the bulkheads'', so I did. I shouldn't have and had to take them apart. Now I should have probably read the whole manual first. Also if you know your ship terminology you should be fine, I need a ship to English dictionary for the parts list. There are 2 different sizes of canon carriages C4 and C6 but it doesn't really say that anywhere.
I just finished the Ochre HMS Terror and am finding this kit way more difficult and a bit above my skill level. But I will press on.

Neil thank you for your comments. I've also been looking at the Terror so your comparison is really helpful. Cheers!

I finished the gun deck and just penciled in the tree nails, though I did try a few with toothpicks but think they are bamboo so I ordered some birch ones.

Plus filled in the first and last 2 bulkheads with some of the supplied balsa wood.

Thanks Neil

I have half an aluminum exacto knife handle I will try.
I am curious to know how that will work out. I just use whatever scrap brass rod I have and drill a hole the appropriate diameter and add the cross cuts with a hacksaw to create the cutting edges. Whatever works!
