The ship is based on the older 'large gunboats' or gaffelkanonneerboot. Most famous of the older ships is the boat of Van Speijk who blow up his ship.

Wanted to post a link to the Dutch National Archives, but the link has already been posted.

But, eh, you're wrong about the nationality. Holland has never been a country (not even in the 16th, 17th & 18th century), it's a region in the western part of the Netherlands.

PS: I'll have to correct myself, between 1806 and 1810 there was a Kingdom of Holland, created by Napoleon Bonaparte with his brother Louis Bonaparte as king. This puppet kingdom lasted for only 4 year though......

Could you please upload a better image of the leganda, enlarging the text from the picture (as it is now) renders it almost unreadable. However if the legenda is is in Dutch, translating shouldn't be an issue (as there are several Dutch readers of this thread)
