I remember my first crossing. It was bumpy, but for a different reason than hurdling the line. Thankfully I have no photos of my own experience, but this is not too far off.

Things were pretty tame by the time I crossed the line, what with the CNN effect having had a couple of decades to do its insidious work, but even as an Air Force guy I was appalled at how quickly the young sailors decided they’d had enough and waved off from seeing the whole thing through. But I had had the benefit of some escape and resistance training so it’s possible there was a food fight among the wogs on the mess deck which the shellbacks hadn’t planned on… :rolleyes:
