I am a 78 years old Japanese model ship building enthusiast.

Dear Hikosowa-san
you have done wonderful work on your ship model/gunboat, it's looks beautiful

Welcome to the forum, Hikosowa-san. Your work is extraordinary. I look forward to interacting with you.

Dear all, thank you for your kind replies.

Dear rtwpsom2
Your question
I notice you don't include nail heads or trennel heads in your planking. Is this a personal choice or is it more normal for Japanese modelers?

My answer:
First
I don't have the skill to drive fine nails
Second
Because if I drive a nail into a small scale model like 1/48th, it will become a huge nail and not a model anymore.
In case you are wondering, I always compare my models with figures of the same scale when I build them.
It turned out that the position of the siebel gun on the capstan of the Dutch gunboat was too high, also by comparing it with the figure.

Dear everyone,

This is my third post.
Although this is a work I created quite a long time ago, I have yet to see anything similar to it.
That’s why I decided to post it here, hoping it might be of some help or inspiration to you all.
The reason I made this model is because I’m not very good at making sails, and I wanted to compensate for that.
In other words, without sails, it wouldn’t be a sailing ship.
So I created this piece in an attempt to express the image of sails and the complexity of the rigging without actually making sails.
The inspiration came from a childhood memory at a hospital, where I saw a photo of a human anatomical specimen made in medieval Italy.
That specimen had blood vessels remaining like a mesh over the bones.
Even as a child, I found it eerie—and it stayed with me for a long time.

So, I expressed the outer shape of the sails using transparent rope,
and on that transparent rope, I recreated the rigging—such as clew lines, tacks, sheets, bowlines, and so on—that would normally control the sails.

If any of you have made or seen a similar work,
please share it with us.

Thank you very much.

Thank you all very much for your warm replies.

I would also like to ask for your help with something.
As I mentioned earlier, I hope to promote the method I use—forming the outline of the sails with transparent thread and then attaching the sail rigging to express the complexity of the rigging.
If you happen to know of any works created using the same method, I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know.

Thank you very much for your support.

I have never seen this method before, I hope someone can help so I can see it, too.
