Hey all, pleased to announce I'm back in the fold, had a lengthy time in hospital
with stomach probs, nothing serious but very painful, completely recovered now
and back to me ships.
This time I've gone for Caldercrafts Milford Star, there's Trawlers going past me
front window every day so decided to get a model of one.

Looking for advice on Motor, Speed Controller, Radio Gear and Servo's ETC
Nice to be back

Welcome back Murph. To power that particular model I would recommend a 550 size Mabuchi or a Pittman gear head (10:1 ratio) motor with corresponding ESC, and Futaba or Spectrum radio equipment. This is what I use on some of my larger models with good results. In my experience you want a good strong motor with well matched working prop. Don't make the mistake of putting super high speed motor with racing prop. You should be going for power and scale speed, not equipment that is trying to put your displacement hull up on plane.

Oh deary deary me, what a disaster, the Milford Star model turned into a nightmare
I started with the Instructions as I always do and O my ******* god, I thought it was in Latin !!
They made no sense whatsoever and this was just for the winch !!! I found myself flicking
back to the parts list then turning to the plan, then over the page to the diagram then back
to the instructions and could make no sense of it whatsoever. I'll have to shelve this one and
blame me age I think, the small parts in this one I would need a microscope let alone me glasses !!
Very disappointed to be honest, thinking of taking on Mountfleets Danny Boy at 1:24 scale,
may be easier on the auld eyes but what if the instructions are the same abomination ??
Can't seem to find a build log with pictures for Milford Star or Danny Boy unless someone
on here knows any different, any help appreciated, I am keen to know if anyone else has had
issues with Instructions or is it just me ??
Sorry for the moan but feel better for gettin' it off me chest

Hi Murph
I have noticed a lot of folks, including myself, have a lot of problems with Caldercraft's plans and instructions. I think they still live in an age where modelmakers are expected to work things out for themselves. Still I believe their heart is in the right place.
Good to see you back.

Cheers JJ..

PS You should try some of the Chinese model boat instructions!
