IMMH Fishing Cutter

Uwe posted a link to download this free Fishing Cutter and I thought it would make a fun little build over this weekend. It was fortunate that when I saw Uwe's post I had been servicing a high volume production colour printer and I was able to download the PDF file and then print it out, what better way to test the printer. I printed it onto A4 140GSM silk card stock which gives it a nice finish. It took a while yesterday evening to cut out the Hull parts and then I made a start this morning glueing the Hull and Deck together.

The making of the Masts proved to be a little difficault but it's all finished off now. It's been great fun trying a card model boat and I will have to have a go at another one.

It is looking good......in Hamburg you would get a free entrance to the museum, if you show it at the entrance......
I met in Hamburg some card-paper specialists, Minimum one world champion...... maybe in some years you are in the same class of modelers.......
In the next days I will start to make some topics to show their works
I am sure you had fun with this small little project - and not so easy

Your build quality is perfect! Am I guessing right when I say the printer you used is a laser? The colors are beautiful but for some reason all laser printed materials will crack on the fold points. Toner is a material that gets deposited to the surface and then 'fused' with heat to the surface of the paper. You'll find that almost all good inkjet printers will handle 100 lb stock and the print won't crack when folding. To add to card's realism, don't be afraid to color the edges with colored pencils or whatever you have at hand. Obviously you've done this before...I might have a few card ship kits somewhere on a drive if you are interested.

Thanks, yes I used a laser printer, I service and repair photocopiers and printers so I can always print stuff out if I need to. In this case I used silk cardstock and with the various layers of toner going on to the card it doesn't "fuse" as well and that's why it cracks when creased. I also scored the folds on the printed side so that would also cause it to crack. I may colour the cracks when I can find some colouring pencils, but it was mainly meant to be a bit of a fun build for the weekend. You're no Schmuck, even though I know about toner etc others don't so maybe someone else has learnt something today. What card ships do you have?

It is only a short way to get a master modeler - let us say most important the material is the same

Here something special from my last weekend visit in Hamburg (still working to prepare several special topics of the visit in the museum and the shipm-modeling days in Hamburg)

The scale is 1:1250 and everything designed, drawn and built in paper by Heinz-Peter Weiß (no kits - every model is unicat) - so complete scratch built models

HMS Victory (so appr. 5cm long)




BTW: all guns on the battleships (also the smaller ones) are pivot mounted, also the rotor-blates etc.
