Hello from Lawrence, Kansas.

Introduction to myself.....I've been a scale modeler since the 50's. I do ships, aircraft and military miniatures. I'm the president of the model ship club, The Square Riggers, in Kansas City. Some of my work is on display at various institutions the most recent is a 5.5 foot model of LCS 22 ( one of four to construct the vessel), which is on permanent display at Union Station. I used to be a researcher and lecturer on military history with focus on the Pacific war. I'm about to initiate work on the racing yacht Puritan. Hope to contribute to the forum in the future.

Welcome aboard. Would love to see some photos of your builds.

I'd like to show you and others but I'm not skilled or conversant on how to send pictures via my computer. I'm not a semi-luddite. just ignorant on how to use the technology

Welcome to the fray. I love the model train setups at Union Station in KC! Must feel good to have your sea going models amongst the rail transportation.

For Puritan, assuming it is the one from 1885, where were you able to find plans? I looked for these in the past but other than lines drawings, could not find anything complete with necessary details below deck or above deck. Looks like it could be a beautiful project!

Alan,

It is the 1885 vessel. I have the 1/50th scale Mamoli kit # MV 43. It is a plank on frame with white metal components. Don't know if it is still in production or if you can get it from Europe due to the shipping embargo. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum! That’s an incredible background — modeling since the 50s and contributing to museum-quality pieces is truly impressive.
The LCS 22 project sounds amazing, and the Puritan will be a fascinating build as well. Looking forward to seeing your work and learning from your experience!

Thank you for your reply. If and when I can get someone to show me hands on how to put photos on line I will.

@Novascotian When you are creating a post, in the top section of the box you are typing in there is an image symbol that looks like this: 1774457747712.png
Click on it and it will ask you to "Drop image or click here". You can click on the box and then find the image you want to use in your file explorer (if you are using Windows), or you can drag and drop an image into the box. Either way and it will add an image to your post.

Hope that helps !
