Is or does post cataract surgery hamper your vision for modelling ?

Hi,
I have just had one cataract removed so far, the other in a months time. Everything is so clear and sharp now, but having more difficulty doing really close up and small detailed work.
I know i need to be patient and wait for the other and then an eye test to totally fine tune my new eyesight.
Has anyone had the same and how have you coped ?
Love to hear your experiences.
 
Get well soon. I am also 56 years old and have trouble seeing up close. I haven't had cataract surgery, but I advise you to be patient. Everything will be fine after a certain time following the second surgery. As a Turkish proverb says; "With patience, sour grapes turn into ripe grapes."
 
Did mine 5 or 6 years ago. The new lense they put in each eye was for distance. I use cheap readers for most close work and the Magni visor for more detailed close work and reading the fine print. Either the print got smaller or my eyesight got worse. ----I'm sure it is the eyes, not the print. :)

Just as an FYI, the effect for better vision for my first eye was immediate. For the second eye, a little scarring occurred that they took off a couple weeks later.

Whatever you do, do NOT choose a color for a model before the surgery. After the first one is done, look at a clear sky with the fixed eye, then with the one that is yet to be done. The color blue has whole new meaning as does every other color.

Had mine last year. As short sighted, requested the new lens continue to allow me to reas without specs. Surgery was necessary due to raid deterioration in sight of that eye after almost 20 years with a cataract present. Both eyes are now good , but the clarity of the "fixed" eye was disconcerting for a few months. As a doctor and coward, I was more than nervous about the op, despite my wife, who had the op a few months before me, saying it was a nothing. As usual, she was right. Surgery took 10 minutes The most troubling thing was bright light for a minute. Visual function 100% after 2 or 3 days.
Final piece of advice. This is a simple op. Don't look for some university professor. The best is a surgeon who does lots every day. Good luck.

This is true. A cataract absorbs more short-wave-length light. But it's also true that an artificial lens (usually acrylic or silicone) absorbs light differently than a natural lens. I've heard stories of artists who were very upset after surgery because the world of colors that they had worked in changed. Fair winds!

A brand name for the type of device that helps is Optivisor.
Glass lens a more expensive but are much better to have.
The higher the magnification the closer your nose has to be to the "patient being" worked on.
The one eye jeweler's loop - not really an answer for much of anything for me.
The clamp-on LED spot lights - for me -not enough light to compensate for the added weight
I have cheap and I have brand name - the cheap were pocket change cost from a now closed surplus outfit.
Quality matters.

A scissoring desk lamp with a big lens and ring LED can also help but for me - not as much as I bet on.

Directed light - lots of directed light. LED much better than incandescent, Tensor, fluorescent, halogen and no real problem with heat. It is just a matter of USB hub to 110V interface. desktop gets to look like a 20 alarm fire snake pit of fine gauge wires.

I use these and they have worked well. Comfortable with a wide array of magnification. Good task lightning and sufficient battery life to where it isnta hassle. Low if any distortion on the lense

I have had both cataracts removed inbetween May and July 2024 .
From being chronically Short Sighted to almost perfect vision is amazing . I just wear specs as I,ve worn for 70 years since the age 10 and nobody knows me without them .
As far as close up work , I had to wear a headband magnifier and still have to as I,m still unable to focus close in But the difference using the magnifier is amazing
