I don't just feel like it, Paul, I AM wandering around aimlessly. :(

I just can't seem to sit still and actually achieve any progress. I went off and built the launch but when I came back to Medea I couldn't see a way forward. Everything I have an idea about seems to have an obstacle - something else has to be done there first. I guess this is where a scratch build gets really complicated. I have no 'progress plans' to go by so I just have to wing it.

Fortunately watching your regular updates gives me a feeling that things will get better and that I will soon get back to making progress.

Thanks Sergey, you are very kind.

As work continued on the stern portion of the ship my attention turned to the stern lights (windows).

From cardstock templates of each opening I drew the window patterns on a piece of rigid paper and used double sided tape to begin placing the frames:

Once the first layer of frames was placed, I cut out a piece of mica and glued it (CA) to the frames:

I then added the second layer of frames:

These were then trimmed and thinned out and inserted in the openings:

As long I was in the vicinity, I decided this was as good a time as any to add lockers to this area. First, I added a lower locker:

But I wasn't too impressed with what that looked like, so I added an upper locker:

Of course, this means I have forever hidden the inside planking of the counter but that seemed like a rather insignificant loss.

As this portion of the ship will soon be inaccessible, I added the final details and a first coat of finish:

Thanks for visiting!

Unfortunately, I missed your amazing progress , and the lively discussion about the wine coolers, the sale of the car due to the costs of the hobby and above all your amazing work in quality.
you are doing Stunning work as always, it's simply a great pleasure and also learns from watching and reading the explanations about the construction of the Partitions/walls, windows and the ship's wheel house.
well done my friend

Don't buy that part of the story my friend. He just wants another car, or he thinks we will get sympathy and sponsor him the wood.
No... No... not another car, the love of ship model building gives him a new dream. Sorry, Paul, I have to reveal your new wish toy...

Beautiful work as usual Paul! I am still amazed at your natural progression as a ship builder and wood worker. You really are a natural at this! You’re probably wondering why you didn’t get into this hobby sooner! ;)
Actually, I often have that thought Dean! I do truly enjoy model making and certainly wish I had discovered it earlier in my life. It ticks a lot of boxes for me: research, learning, woodworking, imagineering, detailing...

Hello Ian,

I would add on to "wondering what to do next" with "there is SO MUCH to do." It really does become somewhat overwhelming if I allow myself to enter that head-space. For me it helps to make a list of next steps - and then to focus in on each thing on that list as a project unto itself. That way I get to experience a sense of satisfaction as each element is researched and then completed.

What a nice post Shota! I hope you have a great time in Evian...

Gee Doc, if this is the quality of only the second build, what will you be producing by the time you get a half dozen competed and out for show. We will be looking for your models at competitions around the US or Europe!
Thanks, Kurt. Actually I would love to attend an exhibition but I haven't seen anything in my area. I'm jealous of our european, nordic, and eastern friends...

Someday far away in a galaxy far far away I want to build like you :-D

Edit:

BTW what is that?

Funny post, Dirk! You're the one I am chasing :)...

To answer your question these are called 1, 2, 3 blocks. They are sold in pairs and measure 1 inch by 2 inches by 3 inches each. They are perfectly milled so I can use them for right angles...and they are surprisingly heavy so I can use them to stop things from sliding on my work table and to weigh things down during glue-ups. I am amazed by how often I find a use for them - in fact they stay out on my work table at all times...
