Lancia Armata 1803 - Armored Launch

Finished roughing in the shutters. You can see the second template I used to get the curvature correct. Once I had all of the shutters in place I cut the spare template down to the finish lines, placed it over the rough planks and then traced the curvature to cut the outboard sides to.

These last two pictures show the cut shutters in place and trimmed to final dimensions. The steel plates I use for hold downs are from a plant I did a fire loss at that used a plasma cutter on quarter inch steel plates. These 2" X 6" plates were what they call knock outs", left overs. They gave me 10 of them when I asked what they did with the scrap. I took them to a friend that has a magnetic chuck surface grinder and he finished the surfaces down to a cleaner finish so I could use them. I have applied the first coat of boiled linseed oil on the deck section now so no more work on this until tomorrow. I also had to order more 1mm X 6mm walnut planking. Seem to have come up short so no more working on this for a few days.

Finished the lower deck section. Got two coats of linseed oil on it. Also finished the bow storage door. Will put in place after oil dried. Ready to go on to the ribs and stringers. From that point I'll install the anti-slip strips onto the shutters. It shows using small brass nails used at each junction point on the ribs and stringers but there's not much thickness there so I'll shorten up some nails and then drill pilot holes so they can just be pushed in without much force. Should work out well that way. And yes, I still need to put the lighter colored wood strips along the port and starboard side of the lower deck. Just forgot to mention that.

Anybody ever feel like one of those kids that posts pictures of everything they eat all day long when you are posting pictures of your work each day?
