Lake Erie shipwreck spotted off Kingsville, Ont., uncovered by strong winds
So, as many know thanks to Gordon Lightfoot's song about the Edmund Fitzgerald - which sank on Lake Superior in a storm in 1975, this time of year here on the Great Lakes can be quite treacherous for mariners. We recently had a very major winter storm blow through which also induced a seiche on Lake Erie which tends to be the shallowest of the lakes (aside from Lake St. Clair) and Erie also happens to be geographically generally with the prevailing winds.
The winds pushed to water so far away from the shore in certain areas that here on the shores of Lake Erie on the Ontario side an old schooner wreck was uncovered. The article is linked above. Rather interesting, and historically Lake Erie was quite a dangerous journey for many of the older wooden sailing ships back in history. The couple days of these winds put the entire great lakes shipping industry on hold.
