Le Soleil d'Afrique, a French fourth rate frigate, was personally turned over to Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville by king Louis XIV of France (the Sun King, note the “L” on the mizzenmast flag) in 1688 to take fur trading forts from the English in Hudson Bay. It was done successfully.
Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville was born in 1661 in Longueuil, near Montreal. He and his brothers played a crucial part in the history of New France. The model was built from left over parts and scroungings.
